Tips About Online Shopping - It's Advantages and Disadvantages

All year round, people shop for any goodies. Today, there has been a tremendous increase of online shoppers. However, there are also those who are reluctant to do online shopping for different reasons.
This is a review of the advantages and disadvantages of online shopping.
ADVANTAGES:
1. Full access to anything you want. Yes, by going to the internet, right before you are millions of sites that can perhaps offer you what ever you are looking for.
All you simply need is type in the name of the item that you want in a search box. Example, as you go to a search engine such as Yahoo, Google or MSN, they always have a search box at the main page of their sites. So if you are looking for a grandfather clock, millions of sites are immediately listed for you to start looking for.
2. FREE Tax. If you are living in New York and the item you would like is available at a website whose main business is located in Washington (for example), no tax would be charged to you. However, if the website you are searching is doing business in the state where you are also residing, then surely you will be charged for a state tax. So, if you'd like to buy something with no tax charges, simply look at the websites address. If their main business is located in a state that is different to yours, then for sure you won't have to pay any taxes.
However, there are exemptions to this. Some stores that you are very familiar with may have retail stores (not just online stores) that may be found almost in every state of the US, then you could be charged with tax on the item you are buying online.
3. Convenience. You don't have to drive to different places to buy the item you want. No need to drive around to compare prices. You can shop right through the internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You can basically shop at almost anytime you want. No need to line up in a cashier and wait for a long time.
If you need to send someone a gift who lives far away from you, you can shop right in front of the internet and it will simply be delivered.
4. Less Hassle. You can certainly avoid the crowd as you can be alone in front of your computer. No need to look for a parking lot during high season of shopping such as the holidays. No need to carry heavy loads of goods as they are delivered to your doorstep. Even if the weather condition in your area is too bad, you don't need to go out of your house to shop.
5. No worries of pickpocketing. Certainly, you won't have to worry that you could be a pickpocket victim while standing in the crowd because you are shopping alone in the very comfort of your home.
DISADVANTAGES:
1. Shipping. You, as a customer, will have to pay the shipping expense. Even if you need to return an item of which you are not satisfied, many websites have in their policies that you agree that shipping charges is not refundable. It is therefore important that you need to read the different policies of every website that where you plan to buy an item.
There are also some websites who claim to give you FREE shipping. Beware, because some of them simply include the shipping charges in the price of the item you are buying. However, there are also exceptions to this.
To keep your item secure, you need to buy shipping insurance. This is an added expense.
2. Waiting. It cannot be denied that sometimes, you just have to wait for the item you have ordered. You cannot have the item you have immediately bought right there at your very hands upon paying. If you are sending your payment using your cheque, most merchants will have to wait until your cheque (check) has been cleared by the banks before they would ship you the item you bought.
3. Credit Card Issues. Majority of e-commerce websites simply accept payments using a credit card. If you don't have a credit card, you need to get one first before you can make a purchase.
If the information you have entered in the check-out page does not match the credit card info that you have used, your purchase could be denied. Hence, it is important that you know that information correctly that you have used for the credit card you are using. This include your billing address. A hundred percent accuracy is required by the credit card processing companies - and this is for the protection of the credit card owner and the merchant - protection from the use of a stolen credit cards.
Refunds to your credit cards are not immediately posted back to your credit card.
Refunds have to undergo several procedures - including bank procedures and the credit card company's procedures. It may take from a few days to a few weeks.
4. Scams/Fraud. Many websites do protect their clients by securing their websites. However, scam and fraud still do exist especially if you are buying a product that do not exist. The advantage you have is with the use of your credit card because you can file a complaint to your credit card company so you will not be charged.
5. Doubt About the Item. If you are in doubt, read the descriptions of the item carefully. When you receive the item, inspect it immediately.
There are many more advantages and disadvantages of shopping online. But be sure to use your common sense.

Here's another tip: use Bill Me Later as a payment option whenever possible. You just click on "Bill Me Later" at checkout, fill in a simple form with just two questions, and THAT'S IT! Your purchase is paid for and you get a bill in the mail. Without giving out any credit card or sensitive information. I just started working for Bill Me Later, so before I took the job, I figured I'd better try it out. I have to admit I was still a little skeptical about how it would work, even knowing that it was a legit company, but it was so simple. The approval was so fast, I was like, "Is that it? Am I done?" And I was. Then I got a bill in the mail a week or so later, and I could choose to pay it off by the due date or pay the minimum payment, really just like a credit card bill. I'm not just saying this because I work there now. I really think it's a great way to shop quickly and securely online. Check out www.billmelater.com
